A very unique & rare antique musical box. Made by the Karrer Family in Teufenthal, Switzerland from about 1850 - 1910. This box has a 53 tooth comb and plays 6 different tunes. After having Mr. Anthony J. Ciuffini of Palos Verdes, CA. examine it back in July of 1986. He suspect that this box is an early on in Samuel Karrer's career. La Travieta by Guiseppe Verde #3 was written in 1853 (give it 2 years to be pinned for a music box and this was probably made around 1860.) In a letter from Mr. Ciuffini he added that in a book from W.J.G. Ord-Hume's "The Musical Box" p383 plate #86, which lists the maker as unknown. The maker's name is stamped on the wheel attached to the winding handle. Which he states that t may be even rarer than he first thought. TUNES TO THE BEST OF MY UNDERSTANDING: 1. Herzliebacken Waltz 2. Roccaccio March 3. La Traviata 4. La Jolie Tersane Duet  5. La Fille du Regiment 6. Kutschke Polka. Measures 14 x 7.5 x 6.
